Print solutions that don’t cost the earth
Innovative printing solutions that do not cost the earth, either in financial or environmental terms, are available courtesy of one of the longest established print companies in the Thames Valley: Lamport Gilbert.
Lamport Gilbert is one of the biggest companies in Reading, but perhaps one of the least well known. For more than 110 years Lamport Gilbert has provided printing services and now its unrivalled green status is set to ensure it is a name everyone will know for the next century.
In fact, so green are the print solutions it offers that from its Reading base, Lamport Gilbert can deliver to companies throughout the Thames Valley and beyond, and yet have a smaller environmental impact than more local suppliers which still use less green production methods.
Now this remarkable company has just become even greener, by switching its delivery fleet to LPG.

Green machine: one of the Lamport Gilbert LPG vans delivering print solutions to West Berkshire at the highest environmental standards.
“We already had a reputation for being very forward-looking technically,” said sales director, Charles Day. “In the past we sought to invest in order to deliver high quality services to meet our clients’ requirements. Recently that desire has seen us make sure that what we produce is also environmentally sound.
“ISO14001 sets a high environmental standard and in working to this we have addressed everything: ensuring our paper is green, using fewer chemicals during printing, lowering our water consumption, selecting vegetable-based inks in preference to oil or chemical-based compounds, and reducing what we send to landfill. And all this has been achieved without compromising the high quality for which we are known.
“We have always thought differently about printing. Far too many companies offer print as simply another product to pitch. For us it is about working with our clients.
“Take the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a client of ours with a strong brand reputation. Their brand includes a particular colour red so we have worked with them over the years to ensure that this red is always consistently reproduced to a very exacting standard.
“We provide printing for St. John’s Ambulance, the British Red Cross, Salvation Army and Médecins Sans Frontières within the charitable sector, and for national brands like Beefeater, Brewer’s Fayre, Costa Coffee and Eton College. These large clients bring economies of scale that have helped us remain highly competitive.
“I can honestly say, there are very few suppliers in this area who can offer the range and quality of products we can deliver. Combine our unrivalled green credentials and it is easy to understand why companies in the region are turning to us to improve their own environmental impact – especially when our green approach does not cost any more than the environmentally unfriendly methods still used by many other printers.”
